McGill’s Group, Scotland’s largest independent bus company, has launched The Aberdeen Adventurer—a brand-new open-top sightseeing tour that offers a fresh way to explore the Granite City.
Developed in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, VisitAberdeenshire, and Aberdeen Inspired, The Aberdeen Adventurer offers a new way to see the city for both locals and visitors alike.
The tour, which begins on Friday (April 18), features 10 hop-on, hop-off stops across the city and a full 75-minute loop accompanied by rich and engaging audio commentary.
Passengers can discover iconic landmarks and hidden gems alike, with key stops including Broad Street, Old Aberdeen, Pittodrie, Fittie, Guild Street, Duthie Park, Queen’s Road, The Music Hall, and His Majesty’s Theatre.
From the historic Union Terrace Gardens to Aberdeen’s cultural venues and stunning architecture, The Aberdeen Adventurer showcases the very best of the city—complete with open-air views and entertaining stories that bring it all to life.
Announced at a stakeholder event on Thursday evening, the new tour marks another key milestone in McGill’s Group’s continued growth across the north-east, following the successful introduction of Service 14 in November 2024. It also comes just ahead of the new Fly Aberdeendirect coach service to Edinburgh Airport, which begins on April 28th.
Stephen Riggins, Area Director for McGill’s Scotland North, said:
“This launch is a celebration of collaboration and civic pride. With the support of the Council, the Chamber, VisitAberdeenshire, and Aberdeen Inspired, we’re thrilled to introduce a unique experience that both locals and visitors can enjoy. The Aberdeen Adventurer will tell the story of this remarkable city from a new perspective – up-top, in the fresh air, and with views you just can’t get anywhere else.”
Tour leaflets include exclusive discounts to local businesses, highlights of top attractions, and a QR code linking to further information and local guides.
Russell Borthwick, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, added:
“This amazing route and the attractions on it provide plenty ammunition to silence the Abermoaners that delights in telling us ‘there’s nothing to do in Aberdeen’. A fantastic example of the power of people and partnership in action. See you on board.”
Passengers are encouraged to share their experience on social media using the hashtag #AberdeenAdventurer.
